Overview

The FLInSet PPC program is a quick reference tool for handheld computers or mobile phones running Palm OS. It should be useful to anyone programming or debugging the IBM/Motorola PowerPC microprocessor at the assembly language level.

User Interface

The opening screen includes two selection boxes, one for the instruction categories and another for the instruction mnemonics. Initially the category is set to '<all>' and the mnemonics box contains the entire instruction set. This case is shown below.

If you tap a specific category, the program will update the mnemonic list to include only the mnemonics in that category. This may reduce the amount of scrolling required to reach the mnemonic that interests you. When you tap a mnemonic, the program takes you to an instruction information screen.

Instruction Information Screen

The instruction screen contains the mnemonic, a description, the operation logic, and a list of other registers affected. The example below assumes that you tapped the 'addcx' mnemonic on the main screen.

If you tap the '<Back' button, the program takes you back to the main screen. If you tap the 'Show bits...' button, the program displays the bit layout screen.

Bit Layout Screen

The bits screen shows the mnemonic and four rows of bit buttons. The bit number appears above the first and last button of each row. The label on a button indicates the contents of the corresponding bit.

If you tap the '<Back' button, the program takes you back to the instruction information screen. If you tap a bit button, the program displays a pop-up window containing details about the bit contents.

Bit Information Pop-Up

The bit Info pop-up indicates which bit button was tapped and gives additional information about the bit contents. The example below assumes that you tapped the button for bit six, the second to last button on the first row.

The pop-up indicates that bit six is part of the 'D' field, which is used to select the destination register for the 'addcx' operation.
